Photo Walking 2010… Officially.

After participating in last year's Worldwide Photo Walk (WWPW), I contemplated leading a walk myself this year. Before I knew it, it was July already (the month of the walk). When I checked to see what walks were available locally to me this year and saw that there were none, I immediately scrambled organizing a walk myself. Once I had the details worked out, I proceeded to submit my application to lead the walk prior to the posted deadline only for their website to erroneous tell me that applications were no longer being accepted past their deadline and therefore would not allow me to submit it. There was no recourse either.

So be this as it may, I figured I would either unofficially lead a walk or unofficially join a walk that was already filled (they cap groups to 50 people maximum). Once I discovered that friends John F. Braun (Mac Geek Gab) and Steve Stanger (The Mac Attack) were taking part in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden walk being led by Antonio M. Rosario (who I had come know over the past year via Twitter), it was no question that I would be joining their walk albeit unofficially since it was already filled.

This year was the 3rd year of the Scott Kelby WWPW. This year has also seen the hottest July in recent memory here in the Northeast. The weather reports forecasted a terribly hot day for the day of the photo walk in New York. So much so that it made some participants reconsider taking part and thus some had opted out. Thanks to Antonio, I had put myself on the waiting list for this walk, so once enough were frightened off by the weather forecasts, I was made official as a participant in this year's WWPW.

I will say that the weather held true to the forecasts, if anything it was hotter than what was predicted. Antonio was holding another walk, outside of the WWPW later that day which I initially wanted to attend as well. It was just logistically hard to do both walks that same day and with the heat, I decided on taking a raincheck on the other walk later that afternoon.

It was good to see John again, I usually have to travel to Vegas for the New Media Expo to meet up with him. Steve I have known for a long time, long before either of us began podcasting, yet we never met offline until now. It was also great meeting Antonio in person finally.

The WWPW allows for each participant to submit one photo from that day to their site. The walk leader then chooses one from their group which then goes into a pool which everyone can vote on. Eventually certain prizes are awarded and so forth. I really don't do this in hopes of being chosen for anything. It is really about getting together with others, having fun, meeting new people, and shooting photographs. DSC_2853 I had a great time last year as I did this year taking part in the WWPW. That is all that matters. With that said, yes, I did submit my one photograph from the day to the WWPW site. I don't envy Antonio having to choose one from his group, as they are all fantastic.

Although I posted some shots taken on my iPhone 4 directly from the device to my blog here on Saturday, since then I have uploaded some shots from my both my DSLR and my iPhone that I took during the WWPW 2010 to Fickr. You can see them below:
